Soap News: Shocker – Eileen Davidson out at DAYS, Emma Samms returns to GH and more
Soap News is back this week with a recap of the week's biggest daytime drama news, a look at what's coming up next week, some rants and raves -- Plus: more Soap Memes, Y&R-themed this week due to the upcoming royal wedding of Dylan and Chelsea (barf)!
-- File this one under “this ultimately sucks,” Eileen Davidson has revealed that she wrapped taping at Days of our Lives on July 16. The actress, who reprised the role of Kristen DiMera last fall and has been on the frontburner ever since hints that the soap’s heavy production schedule is the main reason for her exit in an interview with TV Guide (check it out, here). Despite everyone’s guess, Davidson insists she has no current plans to return to The Young and the Restless as Ashley Abbott. And can you blame her? I don’t want to see the show’s current regime trash John Abbott’s beloved “beauty.” Sad for DAYS though, she should have lessened her workload as Kristen is one of the many contributing factors to its latest upswing. Since DAYS films a decade ahead of schedule, look for Kristen to air throughout November.
-- Despite everyone’s inclination to blame Michelle Stafford’s exit on executive producer Jill Farren Phelps or head writer Josh Griffiths, the actress told TV Guide that nobody should blame them and Phyllis’ coma isn’t some behind-the-scenes revenge plot. The actress is starring and producing her own web series, The Stafford Project, which is getting some positive buzz – it premieres on Monday, August 5 at MichelleStafford.com.
-- General Hospital executive producer Frank Valentini confirmed that Emma Samms is back as Holly Sutton. Also look for Jerry Jacks (Sebastian Roche) to resurface next week (more on that in our look ahead).
-- Another blast from the GH past is a returning Faison (Anders Hove) as confirmed by Kelly Thiebaud (Britt) at the GH fan club weekend last week. Speaking of the sexy Britch, Thiebaud is dating co-star Bryan Craig (Morgan).
-- Jack Wagner (ex-Frisco, GH; ex-Nick, The Bold and the Beautiful) and Cameron Mathison (ex-Ryan, All My Children) are teaming up for a Hallmark movie of the week / backdoor pilot called My Gal which is filming in Vancouver. The MOW, which will also star Rachel Blanchard (of TV’s Clueless and Are You Afraid of the Dark fame).
-- Speaking of Wagner, God told him he can trash his recent GH return on Twitter. Check out the rant for yourself here. Thank you God for all this soap news this week. But seriously, did he really think his deadbeat dad character was going to reunite with his on screen and real life ex-wife rather than good guy Mac? Jesus, please. The only way they could redeem Frisco is if instead of coming to his daughter Georgie’s funeral all those years ago, he was chasing a lead that she was really kidnapped/alive.
-- Jen Lilley (Theresa, Days of our Lives) spoke to our American counterparts and teased that Theresa will be going after Dr. Boring aka Daniel – hopefully, it won’t be too long. How many victims does Daniel need? A hot vixen like Theresa should be spread around the canvas let alone end up being saddled with some old guy that never really caught on with fans, even after they made him Maggie’s kid via stolen egg.
All My Children (Hulu/iTunes): David ends
up close to Oliver
Opal plays hostess on the red carpet. Steroids could impact JR’s behaviour at the gala. Heather interrupts AJ and Miranda. David shows up with Colby. Brooke catches Dimitri’s eye. A mysterious bidder wins a date with Pete. David ends up in close proximity to Oliver.
The Bold and the Beautiful (CBS/CTV):
Thomas and Thorne demand airtime
Wyatt threatens Liam and Hope’s relationship. Katie secretly watches Bill and Brooke (again). Bill runs interference between Liam and Wyatt. Hope takes control of an uncomfortable situation (what? Her life?); Maya is concerned about Rick and Caroline’s new working arrangement. Thomas and Thorne try to take control of their destinies in this special cameo appearance. Katie and Bill’s reconciliation hits a snag. Brooke promotes the bedroom line (as if her life choices aren’t a constant promotion).
Coronation Street (CBC): Roy struggles as
Hayley goes in for surgery.
Hayley is diagnosed with cancer. Peter and Carla have no choice but to accept Rob and Tracy’s deal. Roy struggles as Hayley goes in for surgery. Carla supports Hayley. Paul regrets having words with Sophie. News of Hayley’s diagnosis shocks the street. Gary and Izzy bring the baby home.
Days of our Lives (NBC/Global): Marlena
and Kristen have a brawl.
Eric and Daniel persist in their quest to find answers to the destroyed evidence. Kristen tells Eric about Nicole and Brady’s affair (OK is that what we’re really calling it?). JJ looks on as Theresa throws herself at Nick under false pretenses. Nicole deceives Eric, who remains unaware of her feelings for him. JJ provides Will with words of support (OK just give him a joint). Nicole learns that Kristen and Eric will be working at the church. An argument gets physical for Marlena and Kristen. Will campaigns with EJ and devises a plan to save Days of our Lives (sorry, I thought I was Soap Opera Digest) Sami.
General Hospital (ABC/City): Julian
agrees to get tested to see if he’s a match for Danny
Jerry jacks could hold a key to Danny’s survival AND Luke’s. Alexis experiences a déjà vu during an encounter with Derek/Julian. Connie proceeds with breaking her news story (which pretty much signs her death warrant). Sonny confronts Connie while AJ’s world is shattered when the truth about Kiki is revealed in the press. Connie finds herself at AJ’s mercy – will Sonny save her? Sam is disappointed when Derek/Julian goes back on his world (to publish a story about a bone marrow drive, I hear). In an attempt to make things right with Sam, Derek/Julian offers to be tested as a donor for Danny…he later becomes suspicious of Ava when she blows up on him.
One Life to Live (Hulu/iTunes): Todd
delivers devastating news
Todd delivers devastating news. Bo tries to get Clint to take responsibility for his actions. Jeffrey sticks up for Viki when Dorian gets aggressive. A health scare brings the Buchanan family together at the hospital. Todd and Blair must make a heartbreaking decision.
The Young and the Restless (CBS/Global):
Wedding day for Y&R royals Dylan and Chelsea
Neil undergoes hypnosis while the audience is already asleep. Nikki (who is dealing with MS, by the way) warns Nick against trusting Sharon. Adam reaches out to Chelsea to help his case. Jill (who is far too busy to deal with her on sons) warns Hilary to stay away from Cane. The wedding day of Chelsea and Dylan (the cornerstone of this iconic soap) takes an unexpected turn. Sharon uses Avery’s absence to get closer to Nick.
Rants & Raves:
- I’m hoping that General Hospital’s Franco is in a coma for a long time. Hopefully Californication will get another couple of episodes out of Roger Howarth. I can’t really blame some of the online fans who are over the “Llanview Three.” Those three actors did over take the July episode counts… Maura West’s Ava is oozing with sexual chemistry with pretty much everyone on the show – is it wrong that I want to see her with Morgan? What’s wrong with me?! That was a nice surprise to have Derek Wells be Julian Jerome. Spoilers are hinting that he’s Sam’s father…while the age difference between Kelly Monaco and Willam deVry isn’t that big, there have been some far closer age gaps between soap parents and children. Let’s also remember that this is a Julian Jerome post-plastic surgery, so let’s let it slide and see what they do.
- I was a bit hesitant to get on board the whole “Bill Spencer has another long-lost son” on The Bold and the Beautiful, but it’s been really well done. I’d love to see Rena Sofer in a scene with Lesli Kay (bring her back, B&B!) – a tale of the two GH Lois’!
- I’m a bit behind on Days of our Lives but I am loving the Sami vs. Adrienne stuff. When Sami got arrested at the opening of Eric’s school – amazing. That portrait of Sami and EJ at the DiMera mansion is so chilling.
really disappointing that The Young and
the Restless went the obsessed psycho route with Carmine (Marco Draper). There was plenty of
potential for the actor and character to stick around in Genoa City. Another missed
opportunity from this storyline: exploring the consequences Lauren’s sex tape
had on the business. It would have been great for Scotty to return to Genoa
City and take over Fenmores after Lauren’s PR nightmare.
